Amy is the founder and director of Songbirds Studio — and a proud mum of four. With a background as both a performing musician and an experienced educator, she brings a unique blend of musicality, psychological insight, and warmth to her teaching.
She established Songbirds with a clear purpose: to create a music school where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Over the years, Songbirds has become known for its creative and nurturing approach to group singing and piano lessons, where students develop not only musical skills, but also confidence, social connection, and a lifelong love of learning.
Amy’s musical training spans classical, jazz, and contemporary genres. She studied jazz under acclaimed Australian jazz vocalist Michelle Nicolle (Melbourne Conservatorium of Music), Classical voice under renowned mezzo-soprano Linda Barcan (Victorian College of the Arts) and completed extensive technical and somatic voicework training with Darren Wicks (Monash University). Her broader training includes work with respected international and local mentors such as Dana Lentini , Michelle Rosen, Darren Wicks, Peter Vox, and musical theatre director Ian Nisbet.
Amy has also trained extensively with Alana K, a renowned Melbourne-based vocal coach for metal and musical theatre. As Choir Master of Melbourne’s Heavy Choir, Alana is recognised for her work in contemporary and extreme vocal techniques, coaching vocalists across genres including metal and rock, coaching vocalists from notable metal bands including Cradle of Filth.
my’s own musical interests range from pop, rock, and musical theatre to jazz and metal. She specialises in teaching contemporary voice — with a focus on pop, rock, musical theatre, and beginner jazz — and has a soft spot for classic Disney songs. She also featured on the track Libera (Part I) - Saturnine Spheres by progressive metal band Ne Obliviscaris, showcasing her experience within the metal genre. Her teaching blends playful, structured learning with a strong focus on connection, emotional wellbeing, and confidence-building.
As both a music educator and a mother, Amy brings a deeply personal understanding of child development and family life to her work. Her professional background blends music education with psychology, and her approach is grounded in relationship-based, therapeutic teaching. She has worked with children in Melbourne schools, private programs, and community services, supporting everything from early learning to emotional wellbeing.
Amy’s experience includes delivering wellbeing and behaviour programs in primary schools, working with at-risk youth, and facilitating programs for tween and teen girls – including Shine From Within, which focuses on self-worth and resilience. She has also completed additional training through Forensicare in the areas of personality disorders, offending behaviour, and working with youth at risk of violence.
Amy has worked extensively with neurodivergent children, especially those with ADHD and Autism, both in educational and therapeutic settings. Amy believes music is a powerful tool for emotional regulation, social development, and identity – and that every child deserves to feel seen and celebrated as they learn.
At Songbirds, Amy leads a team of educators who share her belief in the power of music to bring joy, belonging, and transformation. The studio’s group programs are thoughtfully designed to be inclusive, engaging, and developmentally supportive. Whether a child is shy or outgoing, a beginner or already full of melodies, Amy’s goal is to help them thrive – musically and personally.
As a mum herself, Amy understands how important it is to find teachers you can trust – people who will care for your child’s wellbeing just as much as their progress.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we teach and sing.
